  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will implement three new ICD-10 diagnosis codes for reporting COVID-19 vaccination status effective April 1, 2022. In addition, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will implement seven new ICD-10 procedure codes for COVID-19 therapeutics and vaccines effective April 1, 2022.   • FY 2022 ICD-10-CM CODE FILES

    The FY 2022 ICD-10-CM files have posted at https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/icd/icd10cm.htm.  The 2022 ICD-10-CM codes are to be used from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.  This replaces the FY 2021 – January release.  The FY 2022 ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting will be posted at a later date.

  • FY 2022 ICD-10-PCS CODE FILES
    The FY 2022 ICD-10-PCS code files, which contain information on the ICD-10-PCS updates for FY 2022, are available in the Downloads section at: https://www.cms.gov/medicare/icd-10/2022-icd-10-pcs. These FY 2022 ICD-10-PCS codes are to be used for discharges occurring from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022 and for patient encounters occurring from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.

    Upcoming ICD-10 C&M Committee Meeting
    Friday, June 11, 2021 is the deadline for members of the public to submit code requests for discussion at the September 14-15, 2021 ICD-10 Coordination and Maintenance Committee Meeting. Please indicate if you are submitting your request for consideration an April 1, 2022 or October 1, 2022 implementation date.

  • The CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics has posted the January 1, 2021 release of the ICD-10-CM at https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/icd/icd10cm.htm. The update found under “2021 release of ICD-10-CM includes new COVID-19 related codes as well as the Present on Admission (POA) Exempt codes for fiscal year 2021.

  • New ICD-10 codes for COVID-19 on Jan. 1. Six new ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes have been announced for reporting conditions related to COVID-19 effective Jan. 1, 2021. The codes are for pneumonia due to COVID-19; multisystem inflammatory syndrome; other systemic involvement of connective tissue; COVID-19 screening; suspected exposure to COVID-19; and personal history of COVID-19. CMS also is implementing 21 new ICD-10 procedure codes for COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics, including monoclonal antibodies. For details, see the latest news on the CMS MS-DRG webpage.

  • BREAKING NEWS

    The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the addition to the ICD-10-PCS code set 12 new codes that will help identify treatments for COVID-19 effective August 1, 2020.  Among the new codes are Section X New Technology codes for the introduction or infusion of therapeutics including Remdesivir and convalescent plasma, as well as any future new therapeutic substance for the treatment of COVID-19 that does not have a unique name. Concurrently, CMS also released the new ICD-10 MS-DRGs Grouper software package to accommodate these new codes, Version 37.2 effective August 1, 2020.  The new codes will not affect the MS-DRG assignment.     Separately, the frequently asked questions on COVID-19 jointly developed and approved by the American Hospital Association’s Central Office on ICD-10-CM/PCS and the American Health Information Management Association were recently updated to include questions related to post COVID-19 manifestations, post acute care encounters and multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) due to COVID-19.
